Energizing the Dhopakandi Farm with Solar Power
In Faridpur District, Bangladesh, access to reliable irrigation remains a major challenge for many farmers. In Dhopakandi, farmers still depend on diesel-powered pumps to draw groundwater, a system that is costly, vulnerable to fuel price fluctuations, and sub-optimal in terms of efficiency.
To address these constraints, the “Energizing the Dhopakandi Farm” initiative was launched. The project plans to install solar-powered submersible pumps, a durable and environmentally friendly solution. By replacing diesel with renewable energy, these pumps will provide more regular irrigation, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and significantly cut polluting emissions.
The project is coordinated locally by Mr. Majed Ali Khan, a community leader representing 25 farmers, with technical support from Rahimafrooz, a recognized provider in Bangladesh. The Society Development Committee (SDC)—active in the country for over 36 years, ensures institutional and social support.
Beyond the technical installation, the objective is clear: to build a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable irrigation model that strengthens food security and inspires other rural communities across Bangladesh.
