Fair Energy La référence
The bilingual, secular school La Référence, located in Yaoundé (Nkomassi neighborhood, Yaoundé 7), currently welcomes 330 students and 24 staff members across 18 classrooms, a multimedia library, and a computer room. Founded in 2005 by a Cameroonian couple living in Brussels to provide quality education to children from an underprivileged neighborhood, it still faces an unstable power supply and a lack of outdoor lighting, which limits student safety and comfort.
As the next step, Fair Energy aims to modernize the electrical installation, reinforce the wiring, improve classroom lighting, and equip the school with an autonomous outdoor lighting system. With support from the Signify Foundation, which is contributing nearly €2,700 in kind by supplying 80 LED lamps and solar floodlights, the school will gain a durable, secure lighting infrastructure, ensuring a safer environment for students and staff.
This project, led by Fair Energy with support from the diaspora and our technical partner Solarly, combines citizen financing with cutting-edge technological support. It turns access to energy into a direct lever for education, safety, and the future of La Référence’s students.
The total budget for the project is €3,433.18. The Signify Foundation is covering 78% of this, or €2,675.62, in kind, by supplying 80 LED lamps and 10 solar floodlights for indoor and outdoor lighting at the school. The remaining 22%, or €757.56, will be covered by fundraising efforts carried out through the diaspora and our partners.
