Fair Energy multimedia Centre Bodkang – Cameroon

ASBL Aide vulnerable is a humanitarian development aid organisation based in Belgium. Its aim is to improve the living conditions of people in rural areas of Africa over the long term. Our motto ‘together we change lives’ is at the heart of our action strategies.

The ‘Bringing villages out of darkness’ project was launched in 2018, with a large-scale installation of several dozen family homes that have seen their daily lives transformed thanks to photovoltaic installations. This first project is part of a larger project through which our association aims to provide solar electricity to 500 families over 5 years.

The association is also interested in the challenges of supplying drinking water. So, in 2019, a year after the solar project, we brought running, drinking water to the people of the village of Nko’o (Cameroon) by installing a solar pump in an existing borehole. The results: a school with 400 pupils and almost 100 families have since benefited from this installation.

For the next phase, 2025-2026, the aim is to electrify the multimedia centre at the primary school in the village of Bodkang in Cameroon.

Electrification of the Bodkang Multimedia Centre in Cameroon

Bodkang is one of nine settlements that make up the large Logmaï village in the Bassa country (Cameroon), located in a mountainous region, deep in a dense forest, 3 hours by track from Yaoundé, the capital. It belongs to the district of Ndom, in the department of Sanaga Maritime, in the province of Littoral. The village of Logmaï has a population of around 1,000 in its nine localities, and development has been slow to reach them. The inhabitants of Logmaï live mainly from agriculture, and are famous for their traditional dance called ‘Mahongo ma Longmai’.
Their days are punctuated by a dawn start in the fields. The Bodkang multimedia centre is the only place to live and a hub of entertainment for all the inhabitants of this locality.

This multimedia centre includes a modern computer room equipped with several connected computers, enabling children from Bodkang public schools (200 pupils) and Nko’o primary school (150 pupils) to access digital resources and learn about computers and new technologies. This computer room represents a real opportunity for pupils from both schools, who will be able to develop essential skills for their future.

In addition to the computer room, the multimedia centre houses a well-stocked library, designed to encourage reading and offer children access to a variety of books. The library aims to promote literacy, intellectual curiosity and a love of reading among young pupils. By providing a quiet space conducive to study, the library becomes a place for pupils to meet and exchange ideas, enabling them to broaden their horizons and improve their academic performance.

The centre also offers a three-bedroom ‘mini-guest house’ to ensure its long-term future.

With this fundraising, Aide vulnerable aims to provide electricity to the multimedia centre by installing solar panels and lithium batteries. Currently, the electricity grid in this area is very weak, meaning that the centre can only be used 60¨% of the time. With a permanent power supply, the centre will be open every day for the school and local residents.
