UP! Lokal in 2025: a year of sustainable growth despite a challenging environment
The year 2025 marked a turning point for UP! Lokal. Our initiative for local, inclusive, and responsible food has grown stronger despite a challenging economic and social context. Thanks to the commitment of our team, our partners, and local residents, we have amplified our impact to strengthen a local food system in Brussels, with local distribution growing rapidly.
In 2025, 14.34 tons of local vegetables were distributed, including 6.66 tons at market stalls and 7.68 tons via baskets. These volumes reflect a solid supply and steadily growing demand for fresh, seasonal produce.
Baskets on the rise
1,097 baskets were distributed in 2025, enabling 101 households to enjoy affordable and varied local products. This trend illustrates the growing desire among residents to engage in more sustainable consumption that is rooted in their neighborhood and based on more direct links with producers.
A local and diverse offering
In addition to vegetables, UP! Lokal distributed 1,200 liters of natural juice and 16,000 farm eggs in 2025. These complementary products promote a balanced diet while supporting local producers who share our values.
Efficient and environmentally friendly logistics
Our Milou cargo bike traveled 2,200 kilometers in 2025 to deliver goods in Brussels. This lightweight, environmentally friendly logistics solution illustrates our commitment to more sustainable urban mobility.
Partnerships established with Cosmos and Les Gastrosophes
In 2025, 2 tons of vegetables were repurposed in collaboration with Cosmos, a social restaurant in Cureghem(Anderlecht), and Les Gastrosophes, our second repurposing partner. These community-minded establishments transform our surplus into healthy, convivial meals, promoting social diversity and intergenerational connections.
These results confirm UP! Lokal’s collective success in the transition to local, fair, and sustainable food in Brussels. Building on these achievements, we hope to obtain the necessary support from the Brussels Region to continue our development in favor of the right to food for all. In 2026, let’s continue to grow this impact together!
